Do you suffer from headache pain? Have you been diagnosed with migraine but have not found a satisfactory solution? Believe it or not, your neighborhood dental office may have the answer for you!
The NTI tension suppression system is proven effective in reducing migraine headache pain. In fact, 82% of migraine sufferers had a 77% decrease in migraine events after using the NTI appliance for eight weeks.
What is the NTI device? It is a small acrylic cover for the two front teeth that prevents the back teeth from clenching and grinding. The jaw muscles cannot develop destructive force and the entire head and neck muscle system relaxes. This is very different from the usual mouth guard bite clenching devices made in the past. The old system would protect the teeth but did nothing to protect the muscles from overworking, causing muscle spasms and tension headaches. The NTI device not only protects the teeth, it also suppresses the symptoms associated with migraine headaches.
In one appointment, you can be on your way to fewer, less severe headaches, with no side effects and less dependence on medications.

Dentistry today is exciting and fun, especially considering the advancements made in cosmetics. For years now I have been replacing defective silver fillings with tooth colored, metal free bonded fillings. The transformation from black disfigured teeth to beautifully natural looking teeth is still amazing to me. At the same time that the teeth are returned to their natural appearance they are reinforced via the bonding process. The filling actually adheres to the tooth, thereby helping to regain some of the original strength.
More excitement has occurred with the development of dental ceramics. These materials are taking on the qualities of enamel and can reproduce a very natural lifelike appearance as never before possible in color, feel and texture. Using the same bonding techniques these new metal free ceramics allow me to conservatively restore teeth that may be poorly spaced or rotated and place them into their proper position. We call this smile makeover “instant orthodontics” and the transformations are dramatic and contribute to a positive self-image.
Finally, tooth whitening has brightened the smiles of countless of our patients with a safe, simple, long lasting process that can be accomplished in a matter of days, safely and easily.
Yes, dentistry truly is exciting when we offer care that improves the quality of life and enhances ones self-image.
Many times I am asked by patients how to get rid of bad breath. My standard response is to treat periodontal disease and cavities, brush the teeth and tongue and rinse with Listerine at least twice a day, and floss once a day.
Unfortunately for 10% of the population this alone is not effective. They have a condition known as Chronic Bad Breath and it is present even when there is good daily oral hygiene. Present in their mouths are a naturally occurring bacteria that produce volatile sulfur compounds. The sulfur compounds create a foul odor that exits the mouth when talking or just breathing. These bacteria thrive in the folds and grooves of the tongue and in untreated periodontal pockets.
Now there is a much more effective way to eliminate Chronic Bad Breath by eliminating the bacteria and the sulfur compounds. The Oolitt tongue cleaner scrapes the debris and bacterial plaque off the tongue and Closys toothpaste and mouth rinse neutralize the volatile sulfur compounds they produce. The Oolitt is much more effective than a toothbrush in cleaning the surface of the tongue and the Closys products are formulated to neutralize the volatile sulfur compounds that smell so bad. The causes are eliminated and your breath is fresh. Both the Oolitt and Closys products are carried by our office.
When you follow this daily hygiene routine you eliminate the bad breath. This will greatly increase your confidence and self esteem.
Did you know that the health of your teeth and gums has a direct effect on your heart? For years now, people with heart murmurs have been advised to take antibiotics prior to dental cleanings. It is known that bacteria from the mouth can get into the bloodstream and this can cause more heart valve damage.
Gingivitis, or gum infections, allow large amounts of bacteria to enter the blood. The gums become irritated, swollen and bleed easily when bacterial plaque stays on the teeth for more than a few hours. Once the periodontal disease sets in, even normal brushing and flossing can result in increased levels of bacteria in the bloodstream. Several recent university studies have shown that bacteria circulating in the blood can cause additional heart problems. Blood clots can form in the coronary arteries as a result of the bacteria, and a hardening of the arteries or atheroscleroses can also develop. Sound serious? It is. What can be done? Simple!
Not only will you be safeguarding against heart disease, you will also have a healthy mouth with teeth that look good, feel good, and last a long time. You can't lose!
A seemingly beneficial supplement can seriously risk the health of your teeth. Over the last several years I have seen a number of patients, both adult and juvenile, with moderate to severe enamel loss. The teeth have the appearance that the enamel is dissolving or melting away. Several causes are possible which you should be aware of:
All of these examples cause an "acid bath" of the teeth. If this occurs regularly, the tooth enamel will dissolve.
Several patients whose teeth have this appearance reported none of these causative factors. Upon further questioning, it was found that the common factor was the regular consumption of sports drinks such as Gatorade. The purpose of Gatorade is to rapidly replace fluids lost by sweating or dehydration. The problem for tooth enamel is that sport drinks have an acidic pH of 3.1. Citric acid added to enhance the flavor is the culprit. Water has a pH of 5.9 and does not dissolve enamel.
Now, I'm not implying that occasional use of sports drinks will hurt anyone's teeth. I am saying that regular consumption, especially on a daily basis, will cause enamel erosion. How the drink is consumed is also a factor. Frequent sipping will allow prolonged acid contact with the teeth. Drinking a larger quantity all at once, ending the contact in a short period of time, will allow the saliva to neutralize the citric acid. Swishing the drink around the mouth will also more thoroughly coat the teeth with acid. Soda drinks can have the same effect on tooth enamel. They are very acidic, even if they are sugar free.
So please be advised that, while your sports drink is quenching your thirst, you could also be seriously damaging your tooth enamel by the over consumption of these products.
